![]() In my past professional life, I was an art teacher, but since having children I have not made as much time for my personal art as I used to. People might not know that I really love to paint, especially murals and acrylic on canvas. We need to fill Knoxville with endless engaging learning opportunities for children, different learning pathways and pipelines, and we need to center a genuine sense of belonging for all families in everything we do. I want to see leaders banding together to make necessary change to make this a better space for everyone. I want to see more high quality, affordable childcare options throughout the city so that all caregivers can access employment. I want Knoxville to be a destination for families to play, learn, grow and thrive together. What about Knoxville would you like to improve? I want to work alongside passionate people who want to make change and lead with empathy. "Don't rock the boat." Not true try new things, change what needs to be changed, don't be afraid of mistakes and embrace innovation! What trait do you most want in a co-worker?Įmpathy. They inspire me daily through their playfulness and love and creativity! What is the most overrated piece of business advice you’ve heard? And beyond modeling it to others, I want to make sure that I am always there for my children in the ways they need me! What motivates you? I had to break away from the idea that over-the-top productivity leads to success or validates worth because I know the value and necessity of true work/life balance, and I want to model that for my staff. Overworking is something I have always struggled with my entire professional career. The mistake I have learned from most was overworking, thinking I needed to do it all, no matter the time it took and without breaks. Imagine how incredible that would be for Knoxville! What mistake did you learn the most from? I want to have more space to provide triple the number of exhibits and classroom spaces we currently have. I never want to turn away a school field trip because we do not have enough classroom spaces I never want to turn families away because we have hit maximum capacity inside our building. Stay tuned! What is your biggest professional dream?Ĭurrently, my biggest professional dream is to expand Muse Knoxville so that we can serve all of the children, caregivers and educators we possibly can. ![]() I want to host more school events in our region, and I want to bring in more families to our museum so they can experience the power of play together! And of course, I want so much more in between. I want to host more play-based professional development sessions for local area educators. I want to fundraise and secure more scholarships for field trips and outreach programming so that more schools can access high quality, hands-on programming completely free of charge. In 2023, I will focus on increasing Muse Knoxville's impact on the community. However, we were innovative, made difficult decisions and went boldly into the future together, and I am beyond proud of my team for making the impact we did during that year. This was a turbulent time for museums across the world, especially for play-based learning centers. We reopened fully for the first time since the start of the pandemic then, and it was vital that we reopened safely while also making a big impact on our community. The greatest obstacle I have overcome would be accepting the interim and then permanent executive director position at Muse Knoxville during the pandemic. This is solely because of the team we have, and I know that if we are able to achieve that level of impact with so much newness and transition, then I cannot wait to see what our team can do together this year and for years to come! I am so proud of the work we do, and I could not have a stronger team doing it! What is the greatest professional obstacle you’ve had to overcome and how did you overcome it? In my first year as executive director - and my first year at this level of leadership - we impacted over 124,000 children and caregivers at Muse Knoxville through on-site and outreach programming.
